Genesis
As nightfall does not come at once, neither does oppression. In both instances, there is a twilight when everything remains seemingly unchanged. It is in such twilight we all must be most aware of change in the air lest we become unwitting victims of the darkness.”
— Justice Wm Douglas
Kamala's loss goes back to the 1960's, when a silent backlash against Liberals began. It was when deep-pocketed funders the likes of families such as the Coors, Richard Mellon Scaife, the Devos family, including Betsy’s brother Erik of the Princes, (and current folks like today's Richard Uhlein, Farris Wilks, Timothy Mellon) and the many other millionaire/ billionaire families began to build institutions. As Democrats, we didn't notice, so busy were we patting ourselves on the back over our liberal successes and rights. We didn’t notice the gargantuan underbelly of racism and ignorance they so cleverly cultivated and then manipulated.
These Christian Nationalists, for that is what they were, worked under the radar, for fifty-plus years, during which time they matured into the institutions that run our country today . . . think school boards, local and state governments, Christian universities and law schools, the growth of homeschooling, universal vouchers, ultimately, the total decimation of secular, public education.
We looked away from the kind of hardball that today’s Leonard Leos’, Charles Kochs, and organizations like ALEC who write much of our state legislation, were playing. They had a single-minded mercilessness and drive, one that shrewdly married politics with religion with corporate power. It’s not new, but it is on steroids.
What we saw on November 5th was the end result . The big prize. The takeover.
Throughout history, mortals have always sought power and greed and that’s what’s going on right now. There is a depth to the election results that cannot be easily measured or analyzed. It’s far too sinister and long in the making.
It is also the opposite of Christianity.
